Hello! I am Carly W, a photographer from Bristol, UK.
Photography is a way of presenting my personal twist on reality; replicating a scene from my imagination. Inspiration generally comes from one of three things: a model, a location or a prop.
I am always open to shooting new themes but I particularly favour colour, images with strong emotion, and subtle storytelling pictures (particularly those with a sinister undertone). I'd rather someone despised a picture of mine than found it boring.
In June 2010 I published an unusual photo book entitled Post Box Portrait, which took the best part of a year to shoot and collate. It gained recognition from various media: the Royal Mail themselves and the Bristol Evening Post newspaper when chosen as Bristol’s Book of the Week. Unsurprisingly it had a favourable review written in the newsletter for post box aficionados “The Letterbox Study Group” but to my surprise in November 2010 I had one of the pictures from the book featured on BBC1’s hit TV show Have I Got News For You.
I am self taught both in my photography and editing, picking up tips and pointers from other photographers that I shoot alongside. I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark II which I generally use with a 24-105mm Canon L lens. I always shoot in RAW and process with Adobe Lightroom and/or Adobe Photoshop.
These days I am busy shooting a variety of subjects. Some weekends I work at a funky little studio called Epic Photography in the Paintworks shooting kids and family portraits and I have also branched out into various other types of photography, among them musicians, makeovers, weddings, promotional/advertising alongside my usual oddness.
If you’d like to enquire about pricing up a shoot with me, please use the contact section in the menu at the top of the page.
